Dakar, Senegal
The Kalamazoo College study abroad program at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Sénégal is a Long or Extended-Term program in which students will have the opportunity to study at the University in French, learn the local language, Wolof, and live with a host family in the capital city of Dakar.
The academic program begins with on-site orientation and Wolof instruction at the Baobab Cultural Training Center. The special 3-week course, Sustainable Development in Sénégal, begins in October and engages students with field work, the concepts of sustainable development, and an overview of the economic, cultural, environmental and political changes among the Lebou people.
Students who apply must have above a 2.75 GPA and be proficient in French. There are 6 K-Units of credit available for students enrolled in the Long-Term Program and 9 K-Units of credit available in the Extended-Term Program.

Nairobi, Kenya
The Kalamazoo College study abroad program at the University of Nairobi, Kenya is a Long or Extended-Term program in which students will have the opportunity to study at the University in English, learn or improve understanding of the local language, Kiswahili, and live with a host family in Nairobi: the capital of Kenya and the hub of Eastern Africa.
The study abroad program is affiliated with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Nairobi. University faculty and lecturers provide courses in history, literature, political science, religion and sociology as selected by the Resident Director.
Students who apply must have above a 2.75 GPA and although there are no language requirements for attending the University of Nairobi, classes in Kiswahili are recommended. There are 6 K-Units of credit available for students enrolled in the Long-Term Program and 9 K-Units of credit available in the Extended-Term Program.
